About this Recording
About this Recording |
The Zuni McKinley County Fair is held annually at the end of August. Lasting several days, there is a carnival and a variety of livestock, produce, school, and craft exhibits. Dance groups from the seven villages of Zuni perform each night for the mostly Zuni audience. Thus the program is primarily by and for the Zuni people. A favorite type of pueblo entertainment is the borrowing and performance of other tribes’ dances and songs. In this album most of the songs sung by these Zuni groups have been borrowed from other tribes, particularly the Hopi with whom the Zuni have been exchanging songs for many years. We are very happy to present these fine singers, and we wish to thank all the Fair performers and the Zuni Fair Board for making this album possible. |
